What they do well
- 100% recycled metals — All pieces use recycled sterling silver, bronze, or brass, eliminating the need for new mining and its associated environmental and human rights impacts.
- Lab-grown conflict-free gemstones: All gemstones are lab-grown, avoiding the ethical concerns of mined gems while minimising environmental impact.
- Handcrafted in Los Angeles: All production is domestic, providing full supply chain visibility and supporting American artisan manufacturing.
- Patented functional design innovation: Earrings that snap, drop, elongate, and swivel for multiple wearing options, reducing the need for multiple pieces.
Room for improvement
- No formal certifications: No Responsible Jewellery Council certification, B Corp, or other third-party verification. All claims are self-reported.
- No circularity or repair programme: Despite using inherently recyclable metals, no formal take-back, repair, or recycling programme exists to close the product lifecycle loop.
About Monbouquette
Monbouquette Jewelry was founded in 2019 by Jenny Monbouquette (a mother and former art advisor with 30+ years of experience) and Lily Monbouquette (her daughter, who studied Liberal Arts in New York and interned at Rodarte), Working from Los Angeles and Santa Monica, the mother-daughter team designs and produces fine jewellery using exclusively recycled metals, lab-grown gemstones, and sustainably farmed freshwater pearls.
The design innovation is distinctive: patented functional and convertible earrings that snap, drop, elongate, and swivel to create multiple wearing options. The Snapback Collection features gem-set enamel squares that swivel to reveal different colour combinations, allowing one pair of earrings to function as several. Vogue described them as creating 'jewellery that is like nothing we have seen before.'
The material commitment is comprehensive. All metals are 100% recycled sterling silver, yellow bronze, or brass. Gold plating uses ethically mined 23.5-karat or 24-karat gold. Gemstones are entirely lab-grown, eliminating conflict mineral concerns and the environmental impact of mining. Freshwater pearls are sustainably farmed and hand-selected by the founders. Packaging is plastic-free and recycled, with carbon-neutral shipping.
Celebrity wearers include Kate Hudson, Issa Rae, Camila Cabello, Gwen Stefani, Stephanie Hsu, and Rebecca Hall. Press coverage spans Vogue, ELLE, W Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, WhoWhatWear, Rolling Stone, and Goop. The brand sells direct-to-consumer and through select boutiques including At Present, Olivela, Garmentory, and Aureus Boutique.
