Tradlands
Rated: Good
Price: $$
Location: USA
Quick verdict
A women's basics brand with exceptionally strong customer satisfaction and genuine living wage commitments. But lacking the environmental credentials and certifications to match. Tradlands' menswear-inspired wardrobe staples are designed to last, with a Trustpilot rating of 4.8/5 across 530+ reviews, among the highest satisfaction scores for any sustainable brand. Living wages are calculated against US standards, and founders personally visit family-owned factories in Peru and China. Size inclusivity from XXS to 4X is genuinely progressive. However, environmental practices are weak, with no organic cotton certification, no carbon targets, and no hazardous chemical policies.

Rating breakdown
Primarily natural fibres. Cotton, linen, Tencel, Peruvian alpaca, merino wool, silk. Focus on mono-materials for recyclability. Key gap: no organic cotton certification despite cotton being a primary material. Some deadstock fabric use.
Living wages calculated against US standards for food, housing, clothing, and healthcare. Meaningfully above local minimums. Annual compliance audits. Founders personally visit family-owned factories in Peru and China. Long-term manufacturing relationships.
Biodegradable cornstarch-based mailers, FSC-certified hangtags, and a 98% fabric utilisation rate are positives. No carbon targets, no hazardous chemical policies, no energy commitments. Previously operated "Worn Well Exchange" resale platform (now closed).
Clear communication of values and living wage methodology. Founders personally visit factories and share the experience. But no published supplier list, no third-party certifications, no detailed traceability documentation.
98% fabric utilisation rate with offcuts recycled into scrunchies and accessories is impressive. Near-zero cutting waste. Biodegradable cornstarch-based mailers are genuinely plastic-free. However, the Worn Well Exchange resale platform has closed, leaving no active circularity programme.
What they do well
- Trustpilot 4.8/5 across 530+ reviews. Exceptionally high satisfaction with 95% of customers saying they'd buy again
- Living wage commitment. Calculated against US standards for food, housing, clothing, and healthcare, meaningfully above local minimums in manufacturing countries
- Size range from XXS to 4X: genuine size inclusivity that many sustainable brands still lack
- 98% fabric utilisation rate. Offcuts recycled into scrunchies and accessories, achieving near-zero cutting waste
- Biodegradable compostable packaging. Cornstarch-blend mailers that are genuinely plastic-free
Room for improvement
- No organic cotton certification — a significant gap for a brand using cotton as a primary material
- No carbon reduction targets, no hazardous chemical policies, and no renewable energy commitments
- Manufacturing in China without published factory names. While audited and the founders visit in person, the absence of factory-level disclosure leaves a trust gap
About Tradlands
Tradlands was founded in 2012 by married couple Sadie Beaudet and Jeremy Roberts, who quit their San Francisco desk jobs, cashed out their 401(k)s, and launched with just $10,000 and 120 shirts. Sadie's frustration with fast fashion's poor quality drove the concept: menswear-inspired fabrics and construction designed for women's bodies. The brand has grown to over $1 million in annual revenue.
Materials are primarily natural fibres. Cotton, linen, Tencel, Peruvian alpaca, merino wool. With a focus on mono-materials that are easier to recycle or biodegrade. Manufacturing occurs in Peru (knits, in family-owned facilities where cotton grows natively, enabling "seed to garment" production) and China (wovens, in a family-owned factory with long-term relationships). The first four years of production were entirely USA-based.
Living wages are calculated against US standards for food, housing, clothing, and healthcare — a methodology that sets a higher bar than local minimum wage comparisons. Annual compliance audits evaluate employee satisfaction and environmental conditions, and the founders have personally visited factories. Labour practices are considered strong, but the environmental credentials remain underdeveloped.
The brand's exceptional customer satisfaction (4.8/5 Trustpilot from 530+ reviews) reflects genuine product quality and durability. The "cost per wear" philosophy is backed by actual customer reports of years of use. Pricing ($120-220 for core garments) sits between Everlane and Cuyana. Packaging is fully biodegradable cornstarch-based mailers with FSC-certified hangtags. The previously operated Worn Well Exchange resale platform has closed, leaving a circularity gap.
